WHY IS THE ALTAI WORLD ECO-CAMP SPECIAL?

The Altai World Eco-Camp is located in the heart of the Altai Geopark, in the high-altitude Kurai Steppe, overlooking the snowy peaks and glaciers of the North Chui Ridge, in the pristine Kezek Tyalan glade, which means "special or different glade" in the Altai language. It is situated in the purest place untouched by civilization. We understand that any activity, including tourism, affects local ecosystems. We recognize that the uniqueness of this place lies in its primordial purity, and we strive to ensure that our impact on nature is minimal. We aim to preserve it for our guests, ourselves, and our descendants. Our values include caring for both our guests and the environment, emphasizing preservation and sustainability.
SEPARATE WASTE COLLECTION
Since 2022, separate waste collection has been implemented in the eco-camp.We managed to reduce the amount of garbage that is sent to the landfill by 60-70%.

All recyclable resources are exported to the recycling stations at the end of the season. Sometimes it's far away. For example, glass is accepted only in Barnaul or Novosibirsk.

WE COLLECT RECYCLABLE MATERIALS:

  • Glass
  • Metal
  • Waste paper (boxes) — go to reuse for the needs of the eco-camp
  • PET bottles (PET 1)
  • Bottles of household chemicals (HDPE 2)
  • Food waste
REPLACEMENT OF DISPOSABLE ITEMS
  • Refillable reusable dispensers for soap, shower gel, shampoo are installed instead of individual packages made of non–recyclable plastic.

  • Soaps and shower gels come in large packages, which reduces the amount of future waste

  • Reusable slippers are provided for guests, instead of disposable ones

  • Bamboo toothbrushes (compostable) instead of plastic ones (not recyclable in most cities of the world)
BIODEGRADABLE HOUSEHOLD CHEMICALS AND COSMETICS
We use biodegradable detergents and cosmetics – shower gels, creams, shampoos, liquid soaps and detergents for kitchen and cleaning.

Such products use non-aggressive components that work like conventional cleaning and detergents and do not harm humans and nature, do not accumulate in the ecosystem and decompose into harmless substances.
RENEWABLE ENERGY
We have installed solar panels that generate some of the energy and reduce the amount of energy used from fossil sources. A solar collector is installed in the shower complex to heat the water. It heats the water at the expense of the sun, while it does not consume energy itself.

Thus, from 20 to 25% of the total energy consumed by the eco-camp is generated from renewable sources.
CREATING JOBS FOR LOCAL RESIDENTS AND GETTING TO KNOW THE NATIONAL CULTURE

Maids, kitchen assistants, cooks, waiters, drivers, handymen – residents of nearby villages. Many of them have been working at Mir Altai since its foundation.

The eco-camp introduces guests to local crafts, shows local productions, and invites Altai musicians and singers, carriers of a unique culture, to cooperate.
